H. Clarke Powers is proud to be an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for grades TK-5 and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for grades 6-8. This page provides helpful links and resources that explain the core principles of the IB and how we bring them to life throughout our school.
The PYP fosters young learners to be curious, thoughtful inquirers - both in the classroom and in the world around them. Rooted in a transdisciplinary, inquiry-based approach, the PYP encourages students to explore concepts with creativity, compassion and curiosity. Each year of the programme, students explore six transdisciplinary themes of global significance that help them make sense of the world and their role in it:
Through thoughtfully designed units of inquiry, teachers integrate subject area content, skills and standards to foster deep conceptual understanding. Learning experiences integrate the IB Learner Profile, which aims to develop students who are: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, courageous, balanced, and reflective.
The MYP continues to foster whole-child development while increasing academic rigor and real-world application. Students engage in a balanced, challenging, and interconnected curriculum that includes:
MYP emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, character development, and service. Through service projects and ongoing reflection, students grow into responsible global citizens.
